Spectrum Visual Art - Q1 Competition

Concept

The basis of the programme and competition is to stimulate creativity and experimentation in the production of new photographs which reflect the techniques featured in the 2024 Q1 Visual Art programme.

The concept is therefore suitably flexible and the idea of three quarters of digital and one final of print is being relaxed. The first three quarters may be presented as digital or prints at the photographer’s option (Q4 tbc).

Rules

No subject or genre is specified, only the technique options from Q1 2024.
Photos must be the sole work of the photographer and must have been taken in 2024.
Photos and any text (as an image file, pdf, screenshot etc) should be sent to Chris Tostevin-Hall no later than Saturday 6 April.*
Prints may be brought on the night (9 April 2024).

The expectation is for 3 to 5 photos, with or without titles, a statement of intent, or other explanatory text.
Presentation of the photos is at the option of the photographer; individual photos, a cohesive set, an RPS style panel, a triptych or other multi-panel presentation.
There is no requirement for ‘cohesion’ in the photos, they can each stand on their own or they can form a ‘set’ in the broadest sense.
The photos may reflect one or more of the featured techniques (individually and / or collectively).
Digital files should all be in the Spectrum standard specification .jpgs in sRGB with dimensions no bigger than W:1600px & H:1200px.
Prints may be presented individually or as a display panel (capable of easy display on the night).
Given the likely limited number of entries photographers may choose to submit more than one entry. Entries should be ranked in number order with second and subsequent entries being outside the competition and considered for discussion subject to time availability.
